If you want to annoy a journalist...

This should never be a part of a conversation with a journalist:

Me: Is there anything else you'd like to add about the program or anything you feel like I've missed?

Anonymous: No, um, when you do get a draft or something done, if you don't mind just me taking a look at if just to make -- can I do that or not?

Me: Um... *silence* ...I don't know. I'd have to ask my editor.

No, I do know -- of course you can't. You can look at it when it's published. I have a degree in journalism, but you want to ask permission to be my boss and/or do my job for me? I don't think so. Seriously, people, not okay.

Always,

  1. Ugh! People do this to me all the time! It drives me crazy! What do they expect? "Sure! I'll get your approval before I report the facts? Make sure telling the truth is okay with you?" Ridiculous.

  2. I feel like I need to come up with a REALLY good witty come back for the next time someone asks...but nothing has come to mind yet, haha!!

  3. I feel that there is very little respect for young journalists in general!!

  4. @Jessica -- it's totally normal. Nothing new but just as annoying every single time!

    @Spencer -- you better believe it! :)

  5. I think it's so cool you're a journalist. That's what I want to be, oh so very badly! Where did you study??

  6. Nequia, are you studying somewhere right now? I absolutely love journalism. It's perfect if you need some sort of structure everyday, but still need every day to be perfect. I love it because it provides opportunity to learn new things constantly, be social, while still maintaining some time for myself!

    I studied at Texas Tech University in West Texas. I just graduated in May, and I'm on the job hunt right now...hopefully landing something very, very soon!

    What appeals to you about journalism?

  7. My favorite is when a source starts a conversation by reminding you how much money they spend on advertising with your newspaper.
    Oh yeah. UGh!
