Midsummer Nights' Fair

I covered an event today, the Midsummer Nights' Fair. It is fun for me to go to these events and mingle with so many that are effecting and serving their community. It helps me feel like I am in the place I'm supposed to be — at least for now. Sometimes I have a hard time seeing myself doing journalism forever — writing stories for events like this can become so monotonous — but for now, it's good.

Big Brother Big Sister benefit

We had the chance to go to the Big Brother Big Sister benefit this year. It was wonderful to spend some quality time together. Plus, we always love a silly shot.

Cornerstone Group Home for Boys

I recently met with a group of boys living in a group home for juvenile delinquents. They created a clothing line with designs that make a commentary on social issues like materialism. A part of their proceeds go towards an organization that helps babies that are HIV positive. I was really impressed by their recognition for a need to change, both for themselves and society. I was also grateful for their recognition of their self-worth and potential capability. It was a real testament to me of the resiliency of the human spirit.

We ran their story in the paper shortly after the interview, along with pictures of their clothing. Read their story here.

A few days later I received a stack of thank you notes from the boys — I was so tickled! (One got brownie points for telling me I'm attractive!) They had a clothing line launch a few days later and Nathaniel and I went to show our support and of course, buy our very own t-shirts!

A thank you.
