A Different Glass Slipper

A new semester means a new art class. This semester life drawing and "experimental drawing." Last semester I felt like a journalism student in a room full of art students, and surprise, I'm feeling that way again in experimental drawing.

The class is focused on creating art with meaning. You know, an apple that symbolizes whatever, an orange that symbolizes this. Stuff like that. The only thing is, my ability to develop an artistic concept is seriously lacking. I left class today feeling a little deflated.

To Say the Least...

I love my job, or...er, internship.

Just a few months ago I was feeling like journalism was a dead end. Every time I thought about journalism, all I could see was cynical, nasty miserable co-workers and that idea, put a serious damper on any desire to spend any time in a newsroom.

Becky's Baby Bump

I took a few snapshots of my sister-in-law Rebecca before her baby, Ethan, comes! They're certainly not professional, but I took a few I think turned out really nicely.

Here she is!

Aggresive Passivity

High school graduation four years ago...when it was easy to say what I'd be doing the next fall.

I'm starting my last semester as an undergraduate student. As much as I am looking forward to graduation in May, it's feelin' a little strange. Every year since I started kindergarten, I've known roughly what my schedule would be like for the next year -- school and more school. But now, for the first time, my life is a great, wide open field, a black abyss of endless possibilities, a road with no end, a -- whatever you call it, romanticized or not, it has no direction. As cool as it might seem to have endless possibilities, it is seriously a little daunting. When people ask what I want to do after graduation, I tell them I have no idea because seriously, I have no idea.

Serious Bidness (Road Trip Part 2)

On Friday we took a mini road trip up to my grandparent's to visit with them. My grandad loves, loves candies. In fact, he takes the candy-making process very seriously. See?

Grandad Hurst discussing chocolate with Dianne Sonntag. This is serious business, people.

Last Christmas Grandad taught us the ins and outs of good chocolate and how to cook it into even better tasting truffles and candies. When Grandma suggested we help Grandad roll some chocolates, we were quick to say yes.

People (Road Trip Part 1)

Nathaniel and I hit the road last Thursday for California. The weather was a little crazy as we drove through New Mexico. I'm talkin' dust storms, crazy winds, tumble weeds, fog, rain and snow, but all in all not a bad twelve hours.

Tumble weeds and ice stuck in our car.
