Where Was God?

I recently interviewed the producer of a faith-based documentary about the May 20, 2013, EF-5 Moore, Okla., tornado called "Where Was God? Stories of Hope After the Storm." The movie follows a handful of families and individuals on their road to recovery after the tornado. You can read the full story here.

While I was talking to Steven, the producer, I discovered that one of the women in the movie is a woman I took several pictures of on May 20. I thought her face looked familiar in the trailer and remembered it from the pictures I had taken. I showed Steven and he told me about her.

Stacey McCabe, pictured, lost her 9-year-old son, Nicholas, at Plaza Towers Elementary that day. I took these pictures before she knew of her son's fate. Stacey is describing her son's appearance to the police in hopes of being able to locate him.

Both Steven and I were blown away — what are the chances? I was honored when Steven asked if I would share the photo with him so he could give it to her. I'm not sure what her reaction was, but sometimes life is just oddly serendipitous. I can say, for myself, God was there that day. He was there in the quiet moments, the fearful moments, the painful moments. He was there in the people propelled towards action and service — to offer safety and relief, to offer comfort, or in my case, to simply document. God was there.

Always,
