Kayaking in La Jolla

The Thursday we were in San Diego we headed to La Jolla to go kayaking in the ocean. It was an incredible adventure — exciting, peaceful, educational and shockingly beautiful! I'm so glad we purchased a water proof camera for the experience. It was well worth it to have the memories captured!

It was a little scary to kayak out over the surf and admittedly it took me a long time to get use to the rockiness of being in a kayak — especially a double kayak!

We kayaked out to some caves to check 'em out as well as see the sea lions that hang out next nearby. It was amazing to see wild sea lions up close and personal! At one point our guide had us stop over a kelp forest and talked to us about the importance of kelp for the health of the ocean and the creatures that live in it. We were able to reach down and touch the kelp — it was incredible!

When we paddled back in we were able to ride a few waves before our kayak flipped — definitely made me want to try surfing!

After we dropped off our helmuts and life jackets we headed back to the beach. I don't know how long we spent sitting on the beach, but we left feeling so relaxed. There is something about the sunshine and the sound of waves that can absolutely mellow you out!

Always,
