Banana Bread

Here's my mamma's recipe for yummy, yummy banana bread!
My first time giving it a try and I think it was a success!

ingredients
All the ingredients you'll be needing (minus the bananas -- they'd been in the freezer and were a little yucky):

-1/2 cup shortening
-1 cup sugar
-3 real ripe bananas
-2 eggs
-1 T sour milk (sour cream)
-1 t baking soda
-1 t salt
-2 cups flour
-walnuts, chocolate chips, peanut butter (or whatever else you'd like to experiment with!)

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

1. Cream shortening and sugar.

2. Mash in bananas.
I used very ripe bananas I had frozen previously so they look kinda weird -- you can use frozen or un-frozen bananas. Just make sure they are very ripe.

3. Add eggs. Beat well.

4. Add sour cream, baking soda, salt and flour. Beat well.

5. Grease pan.
I used muffin tins because that's all I had, and I loved the idea of smaller portions!
My mom usually uses a traditional bread pan.

6. Flour pan.

7. Pour in batter.

8. My mom mixes in walnuts into the batter itself, but I just sprinkled them on top.
Nathaniel's aunt and cousins like chocolate chips so I sprinkled those, too.
And...for my experiment, I put a glob of peanut butter on a few.

9. Into the oven they go!
If you're using a muffin tin, only put them in the oven for just under 30 minutes. I like to rotate them half way through just because our oven isn't the best -- it helps to cook them a little more evenly.
If you're using a traditional bread pan, cook for 55 minutes.
Either way...test for doughiness with a toothpick or fork.

10. Out of the oven!

11. On the cooling rack and ready to eat!
And my globs of peanut butter were delicious, if I do say so myself!

Always,

They are yummy! And WAY easy to make -- it seems like they'd be difficult to really mess up!
